A documentary approach

Thank you for your enquiry about my photography. My approach is very much documentary based, which means I look to capture the day with minimal intrusion,  as it happens.

I believe that capturing real moments without direction is the type of photography that truly tells the story of your day. With my images, my goal is to bring you right back to what your day really felt like.

The advantage of the way I work is that it allows you to be completely absorbed in your day and embrace all the joy and emotion that a wedding day brings rather than the day being a scripted photo shoot.

 I allocate time for some relaxed portraits and formal family shots which are very important, but I keep these to a minimum so you get back to enjoying your day with family and friends.

Photography has become a major passion in my life and there is rarely a day that goes by that I don’t capture the world around me.

FAQ’S

DO YOU TAKE ALL THE IMAGES YOURSELF?

Yes, all images are taken by me. I am a one-man operation by choice as it works best for my documentary approach to weddings.

ARE YOU INSURED?

Yes, I carry public liability and professional indemnity insurance.

DO YOU TAKE FORMAL FAMILY IMAGES?

As someone looking for a documentary wedding photographer, you’re most likely the kind of people who don’t want your guests to spend a lot of your wedding day standing around waiting for the photographer to set up and photograph endless formal groups. But maybe you’ve had your parents or grandparents checking that they’ll definitely be getting a picture for their mantlepiece. It’s possible to do this in a very short amount of time with minimal fuss, and almost all of the couples I photograph will have some group pictures. I like to limit it to around half a dozen, to make sure I have enough time to continue to get you the kind of pictures of your family and friends that you see on this website.

HOW MANY IMAGES WILL WE RECEIVE?

I can’t be specific on the number of pictures I take on the day or the number of edited pictures you will receive. It depends on the length of the wedding, the number of guests and the light on the day. All weddings are different. Generally, I aim to deliver approx. 400 minimum. I do ensure that each of those photographs is of the highest standard – I’d rather give you fewer quality images that truly tell the story, than broad coverage of everyone with no deeper significance. I typically deliver around 30% of the images in black and white.

DO YOU WORK WITH VIDEOGRAPHERS?

Couples who are looking for a documentary-style photographer to work with them at their wedding often like to keep the fuss of being photographed to a minimum. They don’t like lots of posing, or teams of photographers intruding on the day. That’s one of the reasons I work on my own. If you really do want your wedding filmed, I’d highly recommend you thoroughly research the company, and ensure they are discreet and respectful. If you choose the wrong videographer,  the composition of your still images may suffer due to obstruction. I can certainly recommend some discreet, unobtrusive videographers. DO YOU TAKE DETAIL SHOTS?

My focus on the day is capturing human interaction, laughs, tears, hugs and everything in between. I do however capture some details throughout the day, for example, the cake, special dinner gifts for guests etc.

HOW MUCH OF A DEPOSIT DO YOU REQUIRE?

A €300 deposit secures your date.
